Taylor Russell McKenzie was born on July 18, 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was raised in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. [1][2(two) Russell, who was born to the black father and white mother, is bi-racial and grew up with her mother's side of the family. Her skin shade made her feel different in her youth. [3] Her parents struggled financially, and were constantly in a state of flux, moving their homes 16 times to follow her father's work. Russell admitted that, despite the challenges, there was always the chance to reinvent yourself, to create something new. Russell's parents had financial difficulties and she was always on the move. She was 18 when she began her first acting class. She borrowed money from her work to buy an automobile and travel to Los Angeles to audition. She would return to work once her savings ran out , before making auditions again. This routine was followed for four years, until she was offered her first television role.
