
Ormond was the daughter Josephine who was a lab technician as well as John Ormond (a stockbroker) who lived in Epsom, Surrey. She is the second of five children to her parents. Her early performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She then attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art where she graduated in 1988. Ormond first appeared in British television in the 1989 serial Traffik The story revolves around the illicit drug trade from the middle of the East to the streets of Europe. Ormond played the heroin addicted daughter of the leading character, a Home Office minister working to combat the importation of heroin. The role received a fawning reception right from the beginning.
